So, What Exactly is Art Licensing?
Think of art licensing as renting out your artwork to a company. You still own your design, but you give a brand permission to use it on their products for a set amount of time. In return, you get paid—either through royalties (a percentage of sales) or a flat fee.
A licensing agreement usually covers:
★ What products your art will be on (fabric, greeting cards, wallpaper, etc.)
★ How long they can use it
★ Whether it’s exclusive (just for them) or non-exclusive (you can license it to other brands in different niches too)or buy-out, meaning you sell the rights of that artwork to the company.
★ How you’ll be paid (royalties or a one-time fee)
These are the things you will negotiate with the companies that you license your work with.

★ Creative Freedom – You create the art you love, and brands come to you for your unique style.
★ More Visibility – Your art reaches a wider audience through established companies and retailers.
★ No Manufacturing – The company you license with takes care of all the manufacturing and in many cases promotion of the products.
